Journalist, producer and presenter Derek Mooney has received an Honorary Doctoral Degree in Science from UCC this morning, in recognition of his immense contribution in the field of natural history broadcasting.

The veteran journalist was diagnosed with incurable motor neurone disease last year and has since scaled Croagh Patrick in Co Mayo as part of "Climb with Charlie"

The former RTÉ chief news correspondent handed over the cheques after raising funds through the Climb With Charlie campaign.
