UCC launches BIS Summer Camps to inspire next generation of tech and business leaders

University College Cork (UCC) is once again inviting senior secondary school students to explore the cutting edge of business and technology through its 2025 Business Information Systems (BIS) Summer Camps — offering participants the chance to engage with real-world challenges in artificial intelligence, ethical business, and sustainability.

Hosted by the BIS Department at Cork University Business School, the four free camps are designed to give Transition Year, fifth year, and sixth year students a first-hand look at how technology and business are working together to tackle global challenges and create new career pathways.

“This is a unique opportunity for students to experience university life, meet lecturers, and discover how emerging technologies like AI and the Internet of Things are reshaping industries and addressing issues like climate change and sustainability,” said Dr Ciara Fitzgerald, co-Programme Director BIS and BIS UCC Alumna.

“The BIS Summer Camps aim to inspire and empower the next generation to become problem solvers, innovators, and leaders.”

Diverse Camp Options for Future Innovators: The 2025 programme includes two distinct camp streams, each tailored to offer participants practical, interactive learning experiences:

Smart Futures: AI, Business & Sustainability for Tomorrow’s Leaders.

Camp 1: June 16–19 (10am–2pm).

Camp 3: July 21–24 (10am–2pm).

Students will collaborate on AI-powered sustainability missions, engage in startup simulation games, participate in coding workshops, and hear from BIS experts actively shaping the future of business and technology.

She Builds the Future: Empowering Young Women in Tech, AI & Business.

Camp 2: June 23–26 (10am–2pm).

Camp 4: August 18–21 (10am–2pm).

Designed to encourage young women, this stream offers mentorship from female leaders in business and tech, AI challenges addressing global issues, and workshops empowering students to solve business problems using technology.

Future-Focused Skills with Proven Career Pathways The BIS degree at UCC combines business knowledge with technical expertise, preparing graduates for a wide range of careers across sectors such as finance, IT, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, logistics, education, and public service.

According to the latest UCC Careers Office survey, 93% of BIS graduates from the class of 2022 secured employment within nine months of graduating.

“Graduates of the BIS programme are in demand across multiple industries,” added Dr Fitzgerald. 

“These camps give younger students a chance to experience that journey from the very start.” The camps will take place in the BIS Labs, O'Rahilly Buildings at Cork University Business School, UCC. While free to attend, spaces are limited and early registration is advised.
