Cork continued their winning run in the Very Division 1A National League on Sunday with a 3-17 to 0-13 win over Kilkenny at SuperValu Páirc Ui Chaoimh on Saturday.

It was a good win in the end but for long stretches of the first half the Cats played the better camogie, but in the end, Cork’s class came through.

They outscored their opponents by 2-10 to 0-4 in the second half to emerge as comfortable winners.

It was another step up for the Rebels and follows on from wins over Waterford and Dublin already.

Captain for the season, Meabh Cahalane, made her return to the starting line-up and they needed her tenacity and leadership in defence early on.

Meabh was delighted to be back on the pitch as she recovered from a slight injury that ruled her out of the first two games.

“Ya, delighted to be playing, that's what it's all about at this time of year, getting in as many games as you can and unfortunately I missed the first two games, but it was good to be back for today and it was a good, tough encounter with Kilkenny,” said Meabh.

Turning to their performance, which overall was superb, but they had a very poor start by their standards and were it now for a goal from her sister, Orlaith, they could have been behind at half time.

“We went in at half time and we weren't happy either individually or collectively and we kind of worked out what we needed to do and the main thing that we really needed to do was just to work harder.

We had to try and get on the ball and get it up to our forwards as much as we could. So you know, I felt like we kind of come took control of it there in the second half.

“Laura Treacy swept up a lot of ball at the back and you know, we worked it out and finished strongly.

QUALITY

“Kilkenny are a quality side and we knew this was going to be a tough challenge it was always going to be a tougher challenge than the last two games.

“Kilkenny are an extremely physical team and they play really direct. So that probably is something different than we've come up against so far as this year.

“Tipperary probably play a similar style so it's good to have that game going into another tough battle against them in two weeks.

“We have two more tough games left in the league so it’s good to have three wins at this stage. You could see players coming on today to make a difference, Katrina Mackey came on as did Emma Murphy and others to all play their part in the win.

“The bench are coming in and having an impact every week so that’s good for us. There is a lot of competition at training and the next two games will tell a lot."
