The Cork senior camogie team are on a mission and will take some stopping on their current form.

They are two games into their bid to retain the Glen Dimplex All-Ireland senior championship title and so far so good. But there is no talk amongst the players and management about three-in-a-row or retaining their title.

It’s just a single-minded focus on winning this year’s title. They will think about and celebrate feats like that if they win.

On league form, the games they played in the Munster championship, and their wins over Limerick and Tipperary in the All-Ireland series it’s going to take a very good side to stop them.

Leading the side on the pitch is St Finbarr’s Meabh Cahalane, one of their defensive line-up that few forwards ever get the better of. Last Saturday they took on Tipperary at The Ragg, never an easy place to win, and blew away their opponents as they won by 3-21 to 1-9.

Three goals in the first 10 minutes effectively ended the game as a contest.

“We knew coming up here it would be a lot tougher ask than our previous game," said Cahalane.

“But I think our forwards just started on form and they ran at the Tipperary defence and getting those three goals in the first half gave us a stepping stone going into the second half against the wind.

“We were just able to hold it out even though Tipp came at us at times in the second half, they were kind of going direct with the ball trying to score.

“But at that stage, we had enough scores on the board and just delighted to come out with a win.”

MOMENTUM

The wind was a factor and Cork had it in the first half and made full use of it to build up a big lead.

“We opted to go with the wind in the first half and we felt that if we could get the ball in early our forwards have carried form from the league and they did again. Clodagh (Finn), Katrina (Mackey), and Amy (O’Connor) got the three goals and they've been unbelievable in training nearly unmarkable the last couple of weeks,

“So going into the second half then against the wind, we probably felt that we needed to just carry it out that bit more. So kind of, I suppose our middle third got on the ball that bit more, and then we had our subs come in, who gave us more energy and you know got scores on the board. So you know another job done.

We targeted this game since the groups came out as they are always a tough team at this time of the year, they're a championship team.

"I'm sure we'll be meeting them again further on in the season.”

The Tipp game was hardly over and already their attention was turning to Clare, their next game on June 21.

“We will look at the Tipp game and take learnings from that and try to, put that to bed then and focus on Clare. We take it one match at a time, so we are fully focused on Clare now and we have to put in another performance to try and ensure we get another win.”
