Cork Airport has celebrated the start of a new four-times weekly Aer Lingus Regional flight service to Glasgow.

Operated by Emerald Airlines, on behalf of Aer Lingus Regional, flights will operate on Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday.

The new route will cater to both business and leisure customers alike, providing a direct link between Leeside and Clydeside.

The ATR 72-600 turboprop aircraft, which can carry 72 engers, is significantly more environmentally friendly than regional jets and other turboprops, because it emits 40% less CO2.

In addition to the new Glasgow route, Aer Lingus Regional has increased capacity on its popular Cork-to-Bristol service by adding three extra flights per week.

“We are delighted to see our new Cork-to-Glasgow route officially take off,” said Ian Lough, head of commercial at Emerald Airlines.

“Equally, the added capacity on our Cork-to-Bristol route reflects our continued commitment to meeting the needs of our engers.”

Head of aviation business development and communications at Cork Airport, Tara Finn, said: “It is wonderful to celebrate the start of the new Cork-to-Glasgow service.

“Glasgow has so much to offer: It’s rich history, vibrant arts-and-music scene, fantastic food, and great shopping experiences.”
