A status yellow weather warning for thunderstorms has been issued in the south of the country.

Limerick, Kerry and Cork will see scattered storms at times.

The warning began just after 2 pm and runs until 8pm on Wednesday evening.

Met Éireann says the storms could cause spot flooding in places and may include frequent lightning.

It will continue to be warm and sunny for most of this afternoon and evening, with highest temperatures of 19 to 25 degrees.

Mist and fog patches will form overnight in a light and variable breeze, with lowest temperatures of five to 11 degrees.

Thursday will be dry, warm and sunny, with highest temperatures of 20 to 25 degrees.
