A sauna, playground and changing facilities have been proposed for Clontarf Pier in Dublin.

Locals have come together to try to get the city council to improve the slipway, and future-proof what they say is an under-utilised amenity.

Donal Heney from the campaign said they are asking for suggestions for the 75-year-old structure, which has views of the Poolbeg Chimneys.

Speaking on Newstalk, Heney said: "The swimmers recently have said that they would love to have a sauna. Now, they're not talking about a permanent sauna here, they're talking about a mobile sauna.

"But one thing that is very much needed – there are no toilets here. This is happening in Howth, it's happening in Malahide. This is not very difficult really."
