A man in his 70s has been found dead at a house on the Meath-Dublin border after an assault.

His body was discovered shortly before 11.30pm on Thursday night when gardaí and emergency services attended a house in Tobersool in Balbriggan.

The man was declared dead at the scene.

A man in his 20s has been arrested and is currently detained at a Garda station in the Co Dublin area.

Gardaí said the office of the State Pathologist has been notified, and a postmortem will be arranged. The scene is preserved for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.

A senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead the inquiry, and an incident room has been established at Balbriggan Garda Station.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward, particularly those who were in the Tobersool area between 10pm and 11.20pm on Thursday.

Anyone with video recordings, including motorists with dash cams, from the area within the timeframe are asked to provide footage to investigating Gardaí.
