Gardaí have arrested a man in connection with the death of a man who was an inmate at Cloverhill prison in Dublin.

They were alerted to an incident within the prison shortly after 5:30am in which a man in his 40's was injured.

He received medical treatment but was pronounced dead a short time later.

The man in his 30s is being questioned at a garda station in West Dublin.

The coroner has been notified and the services of the State Pathologist and Garda Technical Bureau have been requested.
