Motorcyclist (40s) dies in M50 collision, northbound lanes reopen following closure

A man has died in a collision on the M50 in Dublin which led to the closure of the northbound lanes of the motorway for much of the day.

The male motorcyclist was involved in a collision with a lorry between Junction 7 (Liffey Valley) and Junction 6 (Castleknock) shortly after 10.15am on Friday.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The lorry driver, a man aged in his 50s, was taken to hospital for assessment.

The northbound lanes were closed at Junction Seven, causing delays throughout the day.

The M50 will reopen momentarily and we anticipate traffic will begin to move gradually.

Despite the southbound lanes remaining open, the flow of traffic was slow "due to rubberneckers", the official M50 X tweeted.

The road has since reopened and all diversions have been lifted following the completion of a forensic examination of the scene.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses, particularly road s who were travelling on the M50 at the time of the incident who may have camera (including dash-cam) footage to come forward.
