Cigarettes with an estimated retail value of €2 million were seized by Revenue officers in Co Wexford on Monday.

More than 2.4 million cigarettes were discovered by gardaí following searches of a yard in Gorey.

The Richmond-branded cigarettes have a retail value of approximately €2,010,000, representing a potential loss to the exchequer of more than €1,582,000, Revenue said.

They have now been taken for further examination.

Four men were arrested at the scene and brought to Garda stations in Co Wicklow.

The four men were later released and one of the men was subsequently arrested by Revenue officers.

The man, aged in his 40s, has been charged by Revenue officers and is scheduled to appear before Gorey District Court on Wednesday morning.

"This investigation is ongoing," a Garda spokesperson said.
