Pedestrian dies from injuries after being struck by car in Mayo

A man in hospital from injuries sustained in a collision in Ballina, Co Mayo.

The 33-year-old pedestrian and a girl were crossing on Lord Edward Street in Ballina when they were hit by a car.

Both were taken to Mayo General Hospital for treatment, where the man subsequently was pronounced dead on Wednesday evening.

The local coroner has been informed, and arrangements are being made for a post-mortem examination.

The child injured in the incident has been discharged from hospital.

Following the completion of examinations by Garda forensic collision investigators, the road has been reopened to traffic.

Gardaí are renewing their appeal for witnesses to the collision to come forward. Those with camera footage (including dash-cam) from the area at the time are urged to provide it to gardaí.
