Judge Sinead Behan said she was ‘gobsmacked’ at Cork Circuit Appeals Court to hear that the man was hoping for a dismissal under the Probation of Offenders Act in his appeal of the five-month sentence imposed on him at the district court.

The judge said that despite a significant increase in applications, there was no corresponding rise in the number of successful prosecutions or of orders being granted.

Ian Hanlon is charged with possession of cocaine at his home on May 18 and having the drugs for the purpose of sale or supply to others.

Patricia Hogan is charged in connection with an incident where it is alleged a couple returning home from socialising in Cork city were accosted.

Assistant State Pathologist, Dr Margot Bolster, told the court that Ian Baitson's death was caused by  haemorrhage and shock complicated by brain damage due to lack of blood supply from an injury caused by sharp force.

The culprit was remanded in custody for sentencing.

At Cork Circuit Criminal Court, the teenager has been given a two-year sentence of detention with half of it suspended.

The only charge in the book states that on January 3, 2022, at an address in Cork city, he raped the young woman.

The ill-fated scheme was quickly discovered by gardaí in Fermoy, who charged the 43-year-old and brought him ultimately before Cork Circuit Criminal Court.

Detective Garda Bryan Murphy said that at lunchtime on May 24, 2023, at Pearse Square, Fermoy, County Cork, he checked on a grey Mazda and discovered that the tax was out.

Their verdicts came today at the end of a trial which ran for two weeks, in which the prosecution alleged that the baby was shaken by her father causing her serious injuries.

Judge John O’Leary adjourned both cases on the application of Sergeant Gearóid Davis at Cork District Court to allow time for directions to be obtained from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The 41-year-old, who cannot be named because the victims can not be identified under the Children's Act, put her hands to her face and wept as the judge imposed a two and a half year suspended sentence. 

Mark Troy should have been in court for sentencing on charges of drugs and money-laundering arising out of the seizure of €60,000 worth of cannabis at the bus station on Parnell Place in Cork, in November, 2023.

In his first interview with gardaí following his re-arrest on October 12, 2023, Mr Satchwell said that his wife Tina 'flew' at him with a chisel, that he had fallen backwards and described holding the belt of her bathrobe at her neck 'until she got heavier'.

Defence barrister Emmet Boyle said the accused was acting under chemical and addiction compulsion, and that his difficulties were compounded by underlying mental health issues.

The 31-year-old got into the witness box at Cork Circuit Criminal Court today and denied that he shook or dropped his daughter.

Defendant itted in interview that he was selling cocaine and cannabis, that cash seized was mostly the proceeds of selling drugs.
