A table being broken during an incident at a hotel has cost a man over €4,000.

The criminal damage was caused on November 9, 2024, at The Clayton hotel, Silversprings, Cork, and the man accused of being responsible for it pleaded guilty to the crime.

The accused man is 33-year-old John Dunne of 1 Woodford Rise, Clondalkin, Dublin, and he pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage to the table, engaging in threatening behaviour, and being so drunk that he was a source of danger to himself or others.

On Monday, at Cork District Court, he brought €3,000 compensation for the hotel in respect of the smashed table.

Sergeant John Kelleher previously outlined that just before midnight on November 9 last, gardaí responded to a report of a group fighting in the lobby of The Clayton, Silversprings, Cork.

Sgt Kelleher said the accused was shouting at gardaí and that he was seen on CCTV breaking the table.

Solicitor Frank Buttimer confirmed that the €3,000 was in court and he said that the accused indicated from a very early stage that he would be pleading guilty to the charges against him.

Judge Mary Dorgan noted all of this and fined him €300 on the threatening charge and took the drunkenness count into consideration.

The judge said that on payment of €750 by the accused to the court poor box, he would be given the benefit of a dismissal of the criminal damage charge.
