A charity working to help the people of Gaza currently under onslaught from the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), and a family living under the ongoing bombardment, are to benefit from a fundraising event being held in North Cork next weekend.

Tickets are available online for Grá to Gaza, described by organisers as “an evening of community, solidarity, food, and music in aid of the people of Gaza”, which will take place at Glenville House on Saturday between 6.30pm and 9.30pm.

Organiser Gillian Carney described Saturday’s event as a “musical, cultural, and creative gathering”.

Ms Carney said: “Following on from the successful fundraising event at Glenville last year, we are once again hoping that people will us for a heartwarming evening as we show our love, , and solidarity for the people of Gaza.”

All funds raised at the event, including the proceeds of a raffle, will be shared between the Lifeblood Foundation and the Hakem family in Gaza — who have a personal connection to chef Orla McAndrew, who is the author of the recently published cook book Larder.

Lifeblood is a Canadian-Palestinian non-governmental organisational that aims to restore dignity, provide hope, and improve the quality of life for refugees and people in need by ing Gazans in their home country — as well as those displaced and now living in Europe.

Ms McAndrew, who will be providing food which will pay homage to Palestinian cuisine for Saturday’s event, said that she was thrilled to be involved with Grá for Gaza.

“It’s impossible to stand back and bear witness, and not try to do something to help the people of Gaza,” Ms McAndrew said.

Tickets can be purchased at €40 each for Grá to Gaza on the Eventbrite platform.

For those unable to attend, donations can also be made there.
