Adventure centre planning bid made in Cork

The planned development would see the erection and installation of an adventure activity course at a site within the curtilage of Fota House, including a net adventure area, multi-activity area, tubing course, ziplines, low ropes area, and ancillary activities.

Planning permission is being sought for a new outdoor adventure course at Fota Island.

The application, lodged by Zipit Forest Adventures Ltd, was submitted to Cork County Council.

The planned development would see the erection and installation of an adventure activity course at a site within the curtilage of Fota House, including a net adventure area, multi-activity area, tubing course, ziplines, low ropes area, and ancillary activities.

The application also includes plans for the erection of a single-storey reception cabin, a single-storey staff welfare cabin, and toilet facilities.

If granted, this would be the second Zipit Forest Adventures park to open in Cork; a sister to the existing course at Farran Park on the southern shore of Inniscarra Lake, which opened in March 2015.

The park, which spans 45-hectares of forest area on the former Farran Estate, includes six aerial trail circuits, featuring ziplines, swinging logs, cargo nets and rope bridges, ranging in height from 1m to 15m.

A decision is due by July 1.
