Gardaí have appealed for witnesses following a fatal collision which occurred on the Cork-Waterford border this afternoon.

Update 6.55pm: Gardaí have appealed for witnesses following a fatal collision which occurred on the Cork-Waterford border this afternoon.

Shortly before 2pm, Gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision involving a motorcycle and a car on the R634 at Ballydasoon near Youghal on the Cork-Waterford border.

A garda spokesperson said this evening that the motorcyclist, a man in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His remains have been transferred to the mortuary at Waterford University Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The driver of the car, a man in his 50s, was transported to Cork University Hospital for assessment.

“Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are currently examining the scene and local traffic diversions remain in place,” the spokesperson said.

“Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information, particularly road s who may have camera footage (including dash-cam recordings) from the area at the time, to Midleton Garda Station at 021-4621550, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.”

Earlier: Gardaí and emergency services are currently at the scene of a serious traffic collision on the Cork-Waterford border. 

The incident occurred at around 2pm on the R634 at Ballydasoon, Co Waterford.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí and emergency services are currently at the scene of a serious traffic collision involving a motorcyclist on the R634 at Ballydasoon, Co Waterford (on the border with Co Cork). 

"The alarm was raised shortly before 2pm. 

"Local diversions are in place. No additional details are currently available."
