Five Cork restaurants have been honoured at this year’s Michelin Guide UK and Ireland Awards.

The ceremony, which took place earlier this week at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow, saw Terre at Castlemartyr Resort, Dede in Baltimore, Bastion in Kinsale, Chestnut in Ballydehob, and Baba’de in Baltimore honoured across three categories.

Terre and Dede took top spots among those recognised in Cork, both retaining their two-star ranking. Bastion and Chestnut both retained their one-star ranking, while Baba’de was honoured for the first time with a Bib Gourmand.

Speaking to The Echo, the co-owner of both Dede and Baba’de, Maria Archer, said: “Needless to say, we are delighted to retain our two stars [for Dede] and to receive a Bib Gourmand for Baba’de in the first couple of months of opening.

“[This] was a wonderful surprise, and we are so proud of our team and everyone who s us. We are the first to have two restaurants with two stars and a Bib.

“The event itself in Glasgow was the best to date — a welcoming city, and the venue was spectacular for the awards and the afterparty.

“It is now on to the start of our year, with Baba’de open now and Dede next week.

“So it is good to be back, and hopefully progressing again this year.”

Meanwhile, the chef patron at Terre, Vincent Crepel, said: “I am absolutely thrilled with the news that Terre has retained its two Michelin Stars. Firstly, to be awarded two stars at last year’s ceremony was a phenomenal achievement, but then to retain this accolade is certainly special.

“It reflects the hard work, commitment, and dedication from all the team.

“At Terre, we strive to offer an exceptional guest experience each and every day.

“We are immensely proud to be recognised as one of the best restaurants in Ireland.”
