New Cork retail outlet creates more than 20 new jobs

More than 20 new jobs have been created as UK outdoor retailer, Mountain Warehouse, opened a new store in the heart of Cork city’s shopping district today.

Located at the old Topshop premises on Opera Lane, which has been idle since 2021, the new 14,767 square foot store features womenswear, menswear, kidswear, footwear and activity equipment spread across three floors.

The outdoor retailer, founded in 1997, caters for an extensive range of outdoor activities, including walking, running, cycling, camping, and skiing.

The store opening has created 23 new jobs, and will see customers avail of bestsellers such as waterproof jackets, walking boots, and everything needed for an outdoor adventure.

Mountain Warehouse founder and CEO, Mark Neale said: 

“We’re delighted to be opening our new store in Cork and excited to share our ion for adventure and great value outdoor gear for all the family, and for even the dog.”

In addition to the Mountain Warehouse ranges, shoppers will also discover the latest Animal collections, which will offer relaxed cotton tees and hoodies featuring the famous Animal logo, as well as skiwear and accessories.

Mountain Warehouse, which has more than 10 Irish stores, is the largest outdoor retailer in the UK, boasting more than 390 locations worldwide, and serves more than four million customers annually.

This latest opening on Opera Lane comes following the arrival of two other new retailers along the street in December; global lingerie retailer Victoria’s Secret and American cosmetics and fragrance retailer Bath and Body Works.

The store now s the 13 other outlets on the street, marking a revival for Cork’s retail offerings, seeing Opera Lane fully occupied for the first time since 2019.

Other outlets on Opera Lane include H&M, Starbucks, Next, Tommy Hilfiger, River Island, New Look and more.
