Man, 40s, arrested following assault on woman in Cork city

A man has been arrested following an assault on the southside of Cork city this morning.
The incident, which saw a woman in her 20s sustain injuries, occurred at a residence on Evergreen Rd at approximately 9.40am.
Following a search for the assailant, the man, who is aged in his 40s, was arrested and is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in the Cork city area.
A Garda spokesperson has said that the scene has been preserved for a technical examination.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
A woman in her twenties has suffered non-life threatening injuries following an assault on Evergreen Road on the southside of Cork city.
The incident occurred shortly before 9am today. The woman was tended to at the scene by paramedics before being transferred to Cork University Hospital for treatment.
A technical examination was carried out at the scene which was cordoned off for a time.
Gardaí are searching for a man in relation to the matter.

It is understood the woman in her twenties raised the alarm following the stabbing. She ran out of the property with a young child.
A large number of gardaí are at the scene.
The garda helicopter has been deployed as the search continues for the assailant.
The cordon has been removed and the area has reopened to traffic this afternoon.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are currently at the scene of an incident at Evergreen Road, Cork city, Monday 10th February 2025.
“As this is an ongoing incident, no further information is available at this time,” the spokesperson added.
