A meeting will be held on the long-awaited Cork events centre later this month, city councillors have been told.

Labour councillor Peter Horgan asked who the of the Project Development Board (PDB) for the events centre are, if they have met yet, and when councillors will be briefed.

He was told that the Project Development Board is now in place, and it is to be chaired by the assistant chief executive of Cork City Council, Brian Geaney, with representation from State agencies, government departments, and local stakeholders.

The council added: “The first meeting of the Project Development Board is scheduled to take place on January 24.

“The governance arrangements and any briefings of locally elected can be considered by the board once it formally meets.”

Mr Horgan told The Echo: “I welcome the fact that Brian Geaney will chair this board.

“We need to see the of reference in full and actioned so that confidence can be rebuilt in the events centre — we need assurances now.”
