The NCT centre at Blarney has emerged as the facility with the highest rate in Cork for the roadworthiness test on vehicles during 2024, according to figures released by the Road Safety Authority.
Tests were carried out on 4,421 vehicles at the centre and 2,731 es were achieved, giving a rate of 61.77%.
Some 1,470 of the vehicles that failed had a major fault, while 220 were described as having a dangerous defect, a fault which poses a “direct or immediate risk to road safety”.
Cork’s second-highest rate was recorded at the Macroom NCT centre where 859, or 59.28%, of the 1,449 vehicles ed. There were 512 major faults identified, 78 of which were described as having a dangerous defect.
Busiest
The NCT centre at Little Island is the busiest in the county and recorded 4,845 vehicle tests with a rate of 2,812, or 58.04%. The number of cars that failed with a major fault was 1,722 while 311 failed with a dangerous defect.
The NCT centre at Youghal carried out 1,439 tests with a rate of 58.1%.
There were 1,439 tests carried out in Charleville where a rate of 54.68% was recorded. In Skibbereen, 1,564 tests were conducted with a rate of 50.58%.
The NCT test centre with the highest fail rate nationally was in Carrick on Shannon where 61% of the 1,800 vehicles tested did not secure a . The top reason for failing was given as steering and suspension (15%).
