'It's been a long six years... but we got there': Cork Tennis club opens refurbished clubhouse 

Crosshaven Tennis Club hosted an official re-opening of the facility’s clubhouse last week following extensive refurbishment works.

The club, founded in 1990, is located in Brightwater off the Church Bay Rd in Crosshaven, and boasts three large outdoor courts as well as the recently renovated clubhouse.

The works undertaken at the club were a culmination of six years of planning, as construction was originally supposed to begin pre-covid, however building was halted due to the global pandemic.

Originally built in 1995, the clubhouse, which saw a large extension installed, is now fully accessible with wheelchair friendly hallways and bathrooms, as well as new disability access to the courts and a new disabled changing room.

The re-opening ceremony was attended by a number of club , locals and public officials including European Commissioner, Michael McGrath, as well as representatives from Tennis Ireland and Munster Tennis.

Speaking to The Echo, Ghyslaine Hegarty, head of development at Crosshaven Tennis Club, said that while the construction process had its ups and downs, the expansion will now give the club further opportunity to host more events and activities for .

“It’s very satisfying - it was a bit nerve wracking at times, but everything went well, all things considered, and the facilities now really speak for themselves.

“With these new facilities we can host a lot more events, the club itself does annual events like club championships and open championships, which are shared with neighbouring clubs, and we do junior events, winter leagues, a summer cup and spring leagues.

“We’re very excited, it's been a long six years with a lot of adversity and a lot of tribulations, but we got there.

“I think the project is going to make a big difference to Crosshaven as a facility.” 

With more than 250 , Crosshaven Tennis Club offers a range of hip types with pricing starting at €235 for a family, €145 for an adult individual and €60 for juniors.
