“It is brilliant to see young kids, adults, grandparents buying into the of the Cork hurling team. I think people are just craving for something good, something positive, and something that is going to give a lift to people.

'THE RIGHT TONIC'

“It’s been tough in business, it’s been tough for everyone, and this is just the right tonic now for us here in Cork.”

Speaking about what it means for Cork to be in an All-Ireland final, he said: “I was on the double hurling team in 1990 but I started with the Cork team in ‘86. I’ve gone to these matches with my daughter Orlaith who is now 24 and she was just mesmorised with the win in the Páirc against Limerick. We stood there for half an hour after the game just watching the euphoria, the happiness, and the joy it brought to people.

“She had never seen anything like this before and I was explaining to her that this was us in the ‘90s, ‘80s and ‘70s when Cork were contesting hurling and football All-Irelands three or four times every decade whereas now we haven’t won a hurling final since 2005 and football since 2010 so we’re starved of success and we’re craving it.
