The pipe replacement works are scheduled to be completed in March.

There may be some short-term interruptions in the water supply in the Crookhaven area in the coming weeks, as contractors working for Uisce Éireann replace more than 2km of aged water mains as part of its leakage reduction programme.

The works to install 2.3km of new pipes are to commence next week, and will be completed by March of this year.

Uisce Éireann programme manager Jack Cronin said that the water main being replaced had burst several times.

“We are delighted to progress these upgrades for the local community, providing them with a more reliable water supply,” he said.

“To deliver the works safely and efficiently, short sections along the R591 will have a stop-go traffic management system in place.”

The section of works will take place on the R591 from O’Sullivans Bar, Crookhaven, to Killane Bay Beach.

The company said it will endeavour to give at least 48 hours’ notice of any planned interruptions.

As well as the stop-go traffic arrangements, the works also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to a customer’s water supply.

Where the existing service connections on the public side are made of lead, these are being replaced.

Customers can phone Uisce Éireann on 1800 278 278 if they have any questions about the project or check out the Water Supply Updates section of the Uisce Éireann website for regular updates.
