Motorway in Cork to remain closed until Wednesday afternoon

Traffic diversions are in place in North Cork this afternoon due to an overturned HGV on the M8.

Diversions on the M8 are to remain in place overnight and into Wednesday due to an overturned HGV.

Speaking to The Echo, a Garda spokesperson explained a crane was needed to move the truck and this would not be on scene until tomorrow at the earliest.

"I would not envisage the road reopening to traffic before tomorrow afternoon at the earliest," the spokesperson said.

The road is closed in both directions due to debris from the HGV and the vehicle.


Earlier: Traffic diversions are in place in North Cork this afternoon due to an overturned HGV on the M8.

In an update, Gardaí said that the overturned truck on the Cork to Dublin motorway is located between Junction 13 and 15 and advised that all northbound traffic is to divert through Fermoy.

A Garda spokesperson told The Echo that no serious injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
