Cork City Council, HSE and Gardaí ask landlords to work with tenants to stop parties

LANDLORDS in the Magazine Road and Glasheen Road areas have received letters from gardaí, the HSE and Cork City Council following recent house parties in the area.

The letter highlights that in recent weeks, local residents have had to endure parties in the area into the early hours of the morning, mainly in rented properties.

It also raises concerns that there have been up to 30 people in some residences when visited by gardaí, with some having travelled from beyond the 2km and 5km restrictions.

Landlords are being asked to cooperate and engage with their tenants to ensure they observe the current regulations around Covid-19.

The correspondence follows a meeting in recent days with representatives of the Magazine Road and Surrounding Area Residents Association by Chief Supt Barry Mc Polin; chief executive of Cork City Council, Anne Doherty, and the director of housing at Cork City Council, Brian Geaney.

A garda spokesman said: ''Dr. Ann Sheehan, Specialist in Public Health, Chief Superintendent Barry Molin, An Garda Síochána, Cork City Division and Ms. Ann Doherty, Chief Executive Cork City Council have, on behalf of the three statutory agencies, tly written to each of the landlords in the area asking for their cooperation in addressing and reinforcing the statutory Regulations and Government Guidelines to stop the spread of the Covid-19 disease.''

He added that the organisations are now hoping ''that the landlords will actively engage with their tenants to ensure compliance with the Regulations, adherence to the Guidelines, and address the concerns of the residents with those minority of tenants who have engaged in such behaviour in these challenging times for our communities.''
